I got the impression that it was that “wishing makes it so.” Not so much that they ignored the evidence that they had, but that they didn’t want to believe they could be wrong. The settler faction running the Israel govt is profoundly ethnically bigoted & in denial of history - I think they thought “Iran are just dirty Arab camel herders with smarter friends who gave them weapons - how could they equal our magnificence?” - totally ignoring the history of Persia, which I doubt any of them know. I follow Patrick Lancaster on Telegram who is former US army living in the Ukraine, married to a Ukrainian, and he has had some of the best reporting on the war there. He has gone in with the Russians and reported from front lines. He reported today that US intelligence has leaked that the big “bunker buster” in Iran that Trump has raved about simply did not happen, or at least not as reported by Trump and the media. Referring to that channel is pretty useless but please feel free to link onto his Telegram and listen to his commentary. It is worth a head scratch, at the least.
