Unquestionably Widor’s 5th and 6th organ symphonies are his masterpieces (the 7th and 8th are too, but there are no good performances of them). Truly “grand” works in the “grand” style that Widor so epitomized. So, when checking up on the day’s emails during a little break afforded by Shiloh taking a nap (she’s worn out from all the excitement), I found this performance of the first movement of the 6th (which I have posted other performances of here) by a then-18-year old Jan Lieberman doing the work of Le Grande Maitre d’orgue full justice. It’s good to see young people getting involved in preserving the King of Instruments:

My only complaint would be I’d like to see the performance from multiple perspectives. Big ask though I know…

I’ve got next to zero in the culture department. My only comfort in that regard is knowing that I’m culturally head and shoulders over the average Frenchman…bereft of culture those Poor French
