Prior to 1954 churches were of part of the political process and candidates had to pass muster for endorsement. After churches would Senator Johnson, later President, sponsored a bill and got it passed to stifle church endorsements or loose the tax exemption for nonprofits. Should make for interesting future bedfellows….and probably scandals!

Now that’s a plan to foment dissension right there. It’s not to merge state with religion so much as it’s a very obvious tool to increase division.
They are becoming so obvious, it’s almost ridiculous…
