The subject of the Khazars puts me in a foul temper, for it represents the history of a lie—one that has become perfectly instrumental to the contemporary left. It serves to lay responsibility for the situation in the Middle East at the feet of Europeans, by suggesting that those who founded Israel were not truly Jewish, but rather Europeans who, in their absolute wickedness, put on a disguise and spun a convenient little tale. All of which goes to show that those who peddle this nonsense haven’t the faintest idea what Zionism actually is.
Consider, by way of comparison, the Falasha of Ethiopia or Jews of African origin more broadly. These are communities shaped by two thousand years of intermixture. Though the majority may appear Black, they nevertheless possess a distinct Jewish genetic foundation. The very same phenomenon occurred in Europe with the Ashkenazi. There exists a foundational Jewish substratum such that whether one looks at a blonde, blue-eyed European or a Black African, both share a measurable percentage of common Jewish ancestry.
Of course, such intermingling is to be expected, for the notion of racial purity is, from any reasonable perspective, an utter absurdity. No group is one hundred percent pure. What we find instead is homogeneity—a set of shared characteristics that allows for definition—but never uniformity, let alone purity.
All this business about the Khazars—they invent it, they lie, they fabricate nonsense. To what end? First, to blame the Europeans; second, to wield, from the left, a position against Israel that cannot be accused of antisemitism. “Oh no, no, no—it’s not that we’re against the Jews; it’s against those Zionist Khazars, who are nothing more than a political ideology.”
I have always found those who speak of the Khazars to be either utter ignoramuses or people of very ill intent. And it is no coincidence that those who espouse this whole collection of notions are invariably on the left. All of them—mark my words—every last one is a leftist. They have turned the matter of Israel into a battlefield against Europeans and the United States. It is nothing less than a web of manipulation.
