Landman, final season episode

Watched the last season episode of Landman last night and had to laugh. Taylor Sheridan must listen to Joseph. Tommy literally asked high heaven something and yeah it literally dropped it on his head.

And speaking of TV shows, The Night Manager is doing a pretty good job explaining what went on in Venezuela.

Haven’t been watching these two shows, but they sound interesting. Lately, just watch old British series with good scripts and well-developed characters (like Shetland or Doc Martin), in an attempt to escape. It seems, however, there are a lot ways to slowly kill people. Making guns illegal doesn’t seem to stop the killing. Begs the question.

While Landman is well produced with some interesting location shots, soundtrack choices and SOME interesting characters…It is, in my opinion, more or less just a vehicle for Sheridan to express his negative views on (mostly) all things Left.

It’s not as if I’m in disagreement with most of those views…but it’s painfully obvious at times that the most unlikely of situations are contrived in order get the right people grouped up in close proximity for shoehorned dialogs to take place for our benefit.

Don’t get me wrong…that’s most of television nowadays to be sure, but this program in particular really pushes the thinking man’s suspension of disbelief to its ragged edge. Best example that comes to mind is the extreme unlikelihood of a common house for a half dozen disparate but ā€œwealthyā€ people. Even if the house was huge, which it isn’t, they would all naturally have separate living arrangements near to the main office. It’s just a lazy way to shortcut writing for the sake of exposition…and don’t get me started on Tommy’s endless monologues.

Still, it is well produced and enough of the writing is good enough to justify the watch if you’re in to the subject (and drama). For me, I’ve just taken to fast forwarding through parts of it. Andy Garcia does well in his role as does his wife. Some nice locations…just don’t expect to have to use your brain too much.

Might help if you enjoy a strong adult beverage…Make everything more plausible. Season 3 looks like it might be better. We’ll see.

Love your review. Laughed and laughed. Thanks for the warning. Am a big fast-forwarder and…then…the show is over. Da Da.

Seems you haven’t watched the show. Or you give me far too much credit here or discredit. Actually, you apparently didn’t watch the episode I’m talking about and you are taking me far too seriously. Otherwise, you would know the scenes I’m talking about. And you might want to be careful who you are suggesting an adult beverage to. Doesn’t seem an appropriate thing to suggest to someone you don’t know. And actually, having lived in the heart of Texas for 25 years, I can say there’s a lot of soul in that show.

And no mention at all about The Night Manager … Now that one has character.

The part I’m referring to was closer to the beginning. So, I hope you didn’t miss it with the fast forwarding.

I’ve seen every episode of ā€œLandmanā€. Had enough of Tommy’s wife, cheerleading daughter and ferret owning tri-sexual roommate and related parts…thus the fast forwarding.

The part you were referring to was when Tommy, having had an extraordinarily rough day, called up to God saying ā€œJust go ahead and give me all you gotā€ in a fit of frustration…immediately followed by a ginormous multi-vehicle car wreck which he narrowly survived.

Wasn’t trying to insult you in the least. I do enjoy some parts of the show…just miss good, inventive writing. It’s worth a watch, and I will be watching season 3…or at least SOME of it.

Haven’t seen the other show you mentioned yet…but will check it out. Don’t take anything I say personally … I’m an idiot. What the hell do I know anyway?

The strong drink comment was a way to suggest that one might be more readily able to overlook the gaps in the authors writing skills if one were slightly inebriated… Not targeted at any one person…I still recommend same.

Show does indeed have some soul. I’m a Texan and from Kilgore. They drive through Kilgore in one scene and mention it a few times. Was also almost killed working in the oilfield more than once in a similar manner to some of the scenarios portrayed therein ā€œSourā€ gas, pipe rack accident, methed-out co-workers… Oilfield can be a rough place and they portrayed that well.

This was interesting show second season was good. Seemed like there is going to be another season after that, hope they will get some cattle.

I just binge watched season one of The Night Manager last week. Waiting for episode 4 I believe in season two now. I like it but season one seem more interesting than season two so far.

Never watched Landman.

Ah yes … The oil patch … I had a client once years ago, when oil workers were sort of respected. Young man, didn’t fit the description of someone doing offshore drilling. Maybe he was in study to be a geologist. That didn’t come up. So many weeks on the rig, then so many glorious weeks off to rest and recoup because the job is so dangerous.

Glad you figured out the part I was talking about. I like Sheridan’s shows and frankly, I found Texas to be … Well, yes, that wild. I had dancers for clients also, one landed on a Playboy cover, you can guess, and another got a part that didn’t get cut in Walker, Texas Ranger. I suspect Sheridan didn’t get some of his actors from central casting.

And I’m going to watch good shows and movies, ones that aren’t AI generated. Why? Because I’m a small cog in the business that makes them happen. It’s part of my job to keep up. But I don’t need alcohol to do it. I can stand on my own without a crutch. And for you to have suggested that was, well, yes, rude. Or maybe the word is crude. I don’t know you either, so, can’t say.

If you decide, watch The Night Manager. The latest episode made it fall into place for me, what the show is sort of saying as in this is how a takeover of a country happens. But it was the latest episode that made all of that fall into place. Funny, how they placed the show to stream after the fact. Diplomat is another interesting one though a bit more out there.

Just don’t take things I throw out here so seriously unless I suggest it might be serious. Some TV is there to provoke us into thinking while entertaining. Some is there just for entertainment. It’s our grain of salt. I just thought of Joseph and one of his favorite sayings when I saw Tommy in that car crash and the work up to that. Couldn’t have said it better.

Season One I watched what? Years ago. Was it 2016 it came out? Don’t remember. It was offered on Hulu and I watched it. And found it pretty good for entertainment. Kind of along the lines of Spooks. This season seems less entertaining and more trying to tell us something. Maybe intentional, maybe not. Just a small clog and all that. Anyway, it’s not a bad show.

That was a good scene and I liked Tommy’s response to the crash: ā€œThat was low, God, real low.ā€ lol lol.

ā€œThe Night Managerā€ came out in 2016? :joy: I’m always a few years late watching popular shows. It’s probably because I refuse to pay for them LOL.

In addition to being from Texas, Sheridan is also in the cow horse business (bought the biggest ranch with the best quarter horse stallions - 6666 aka the Four Sixes). That brings in a whole special group of Texans with it which explains his other shows about that crowd. The Four Sixes is in West Texas, oil country, and he is now pretty deeply embedded in it. I think his ability to select the characters that fit the script, and with some of the best writers, his work is exemplary. I hate PedoWood, don’t like what Sheridan has done to the area around our best horses, but not recognizing his ability would just be dishonest.

Watched Season 1 & 2.[library discs]

Heavy on the fast-forward button.
Skip the Soap Opera sections [IMO].

Enjoy some of the writing, characterization, and social commentary[thru character dialogue/actions].

[Want to check out The Night Manager]
Already saw it years ago.
I thought it was a new series.
It was an excellent movie. May have to revist.
As I’m sure, I’ll see it in a new light.

I know, I thought season one was interesting, binge worthy :joy:

Season two just isn’t grabbing me. Eventually I’ll probably binge watch season two as I did with season one. I’m a binge watcher

The set for ā€˜The Patch’ is about half a mile from my house (Westland Tx). Lots of scenes with local Fort Worth icons. Living in LA for 20+ years I’m accustomed to seeing familiar scenes in Hollywood productions. But seeing local Texas scenes is a bit of a treat to me.

ā€˜The Patch’ is formerly a gas station from the pre-freeway days when US80 was the main drag into Ft Worth from the west. That typical strip of gas stations and motels that once clustered on the edge of town as we travelled. It gets mobbed with trucks during filming sessions.
