I really wish the cia would just put their own signature on their articles. Or, state that ‘this message was approved by (fill in the current name) the director of the cia’. Their psychology game is getting a little old and worn around the edges.

I placed this comment under JPF’s blog about Musk and Mars (WELL NOW IT’S OFFICIAL: MUSK WANTS THOSE MARTIAN ARTIFACTS) … thought it might work here as well …
To paraphrase George Takei, “Oh my, where does one even begin?” First, if the pictures and interpretations are accurate how about sending a rover to check the situation out? Before spending the equivalent of the missing trillions in an attempt to put men on Mars it would seem a more rational, and much less costly first step.
Er … ah … (clears throat) … may I also humbly remind readers that we still have 2 stranded astronauts, are unable to get out of low Earth orbit, a few days ago covered a small island in space debris, and still haven’t been able to send a return mission to the Moon. … and he wants to go to Mars? Puhleese …
I think that this might be the perfect occasion to turn off the spigot that is serving to reinforce Musk’s activity based on The Gambler’s Fallacy. Maybe we should all work on our own lives and stop living vicariously through Musk (or Trump or insert your favorite name here) via this ugly co-dependency.

Based in part on his recent failures…fairly certain Musk won’t be going anytime soon.
I’m unsure as to if the cousins have flipped their “deflector shield” back on or some combination of our current American pretend-genuity and Chinese components/controls might be to blame…but they’re not “showing me much” as the saying goes…
Anyway, like you said…it’s not just getting there, but getting there AND back with a payload. Maybe we’ve already been in some clandestine mission long before anyway. Who knows?
Wasn’t with chemical rockets then though, and it won’t be with those rockets if and when we
do return “officially”.
Would be curious to see what dimensional analogues were built in the Martian pyramid though. Not going to trust a rover transmitting from some desert location on THIS planet to tell me what they are…or some triple-filtered hand-me-down private corporation’s landing party’s nonsense.
