Got these two texts from my cousin in Melbourne, Victoria (Michelle also my cousin):
“Michelle’s daughter, Ruby had her first dose on Wednesday and was rushed to hospital at 3am with myocarditis. She’s OK now and just gone home today. Michelle was saying on the family chat how she wasn’t sure this could happen. I just had a talk with her and she does know now that this is a major risk for young people and the vaccine. She won’t be letting Ruby have her second shot. She nearly died.”
My response was that Ruby had a number of complicated allergies and should have been automatically exempt from the vaccine.
Next day I get this (Richmond is trendy inner-city suburb of Melbourne):
“Massive Cop presence today at protest in Richmond. We walked for a bit in a huge group, then got blocked on both sides by heaps of cops. We all sat down for a bit and then they closed ranks and used pepper spray and pulled batons. Riot squad rocked up in busses. We bailed out through some flats and over a fence with half the crew. Chased by cops. Helicopter buzzing overhead. Bailed to car and left. Heaps of splintered groups still in Richmond surrounded by cops and horses. After we bailed it got a bit uglier. Groups formed other marches and were attacked by cops.”
Richmond was a suburb where my cousin and I would go to drink, see obscure international bands and have a lot of fun. Now this.
