They are effectively removing any kind of provenance for the bars/coins they’re re-forming. This makes it questionable what purity it is and removing what was an easy method to determine weight (without using a scale) to unknowns. And with great effort. Good illustration though of why manufacturing costs to make coins drive the significant ‘premium’ cost you pay for coins over bullion bars.

I really like these people, I feel happy watching them. Hard days of work but camaraderie and progress, real skills, not preachy. This is the American spirit I love.
