Been seeing and hearing that idea a lot lately, democracy is a sham and used to control the masses. Isn’t that same said about religion by many intellectuals? I suppose empirical evidence is needed to validate the claims.

I find zero surprise in this. And “they” 100% wanted to do the same here in the USA. They may still.
I suppose the only real difference is that in the US, at least we are almost all armed and stand a chance against them. Maybe. I hope so.
