Exactly
I practise asana, pranayama, dharana, as well as some qi gong I learnt from a kind of Daoist group when I was in school.
I would pick slight hairs and say you can have quieting of the mind in small amounts, like dhyana which is not samadhi but a precursor to that state.
That “God” with which one may consent to merge with is the Hindu god Shiva (although have read can also be another Hindu god Vishnu). Yoga is actually yoking oneself to Hindu gods. These days we have to be sure what god people are praying to or talking about or merging with.
Recently learned that one cannot separate the yoga positions from the religion, which really troubled me because I once used yoga exercises without knowing they are a form of joining with or worshiping Hindu gods.
Yoga is fascinating, and yes, I agree with you – it isn’t taught properly or completely in the west – something seems to be missing and it often seems watered down. That is great that you are studying yoga, and maybe that has even helped deal with some of the nightmares you mentioned in your earlier post. (I don’t think it would be uncommon for anyone who is thinking/wondering about the truth behind the dark forces that are engineering our reality – to have nightmares!)
I like that aspect of meditation that helps people develop focused attention (in the waking state), and many of the great musicians and artisans have tapped into this modality without necessarily practicing yoga formally.
Dean Radin’s book Supernormal is a fascinating (at least, to me!) exploration into some of the scientific research on this topic.
Amen, sister.
Contemplative prayer, meditation, silencing, etc., can lead to some undesirable results.
In the first two paragraphs from this 2014 article in The Atlantic (subscription required) provides a glimpse of what several people experienced from their meditating (e.g., contact with evil spirits, serious health problems, etc.).
Contemplative prayer, spiritual formation, spiritual disciplines and other means of practicing eastern mysticism has been penetrating protestant churches in the west for more than 20-yrs.
I have trouble silencing my mind at night and it is hard to clear it sometimes; I get it. I will not be using any of the aforementioned practices to remedy it.
I silence and clear my mind right before I drift off to somber land with a grateful and thankful prayer for the day, the quiet and comfort of my bedroom with no expectation of waking up to enjoy another one.
With the utmost respect, the Indian Gods Bramha, Vishnu and Shiva are the same Trinity as Father, Son and Holy Spirit. I know that Christians have a problem with a universal cosmology that embraces all religions and I respect your point of view, as the indian masters say : “There are as many ways to God as there are people on the planet”.
But still we should educate ourselves before we condemn other people. Yoga is a science, not a religion, a cult or a creed. It works for everone, beyond religious beliefs, as it works with the bodyenergy that is given to all of us alike. The Yogis not only acknowledge Jesus Christ as a Master, we also work with the Christ Essence, which is the force that Jesus carried down here on earth. It is the life force that resides in all of us, and the task of this age is to develop it in the heartcenter and make it your inner guide. Which means only one thing for everbody : be kind and loving to others.
Nope and not planning to. After battling psychosis with no help from psychiatry and found a solution thru niacin intake to subdue it, I am thankfull for the grace given that all is quite now! I agree with the good doc, you don’t go looking for contact thru whatever technique, drug etc.
Today humanity lives in perilous times lagely due to an “integrity” problem next to shortage of knowledge.
I can’t speak to the eastern practises but a lot of practises from the world over seem to want to “hook” you up via invitation to some power that is ofcourse benevolent. The new age is rife with it. Discernment and caution is warranted but difficult in practise.
The New Age is mostly a scam and those selfproclaimed Gurus and leaders are full of themselves and want to make money and be famous. Unfortunately even the Indian culture has brought forth that kind of people. This is not the spirituality I am talking about. It’s more the knowledge of the old mystery schools and traditions, who do not only come from India. Around the world there’s a lot to learn. And I agree, discernment is the most needed thing right now, as there are so many false prophets. A good indicator is always when they promise you a quick enlightenment. It’s about spiritual evolution, and evolution doesn’t happen quick.
This is nonsense.
That is like saying you can only use the stovetop to boil water.
Yoga is a technology.
Exactly. And a large part of the negative effects people may be experiencing have nothing to do with 'false gods ’ or ‘demons’ it is their own mind needing more work. It’s like trying to ride a motorcycle when you have barely started learning a tricycle. Its a very slow process that needs to happen gradually and carefully.
That is why in a lot of spiritual traditions, very basic work and psychological counseling is recommended at the outset.
Bullseye! Every true spiritual practice is selfing into the self. The God you are seeking within is you, but also the ghouls and dark entities that come to haunt you are you. That is one of the hardest lessons to learn, but also one of the most rewarding
Jesus said “I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man come to the Father but by me.” John14:6
And Jesus answered and said unto them, “Take heed that no man deceive you. For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many.” Matt 24:4-5
“Then if any man shall say unto you, Lo, here is Christ, or there; believe it not. For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall show great sign and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect.” Matt 24:24
“You too can do what I do.”
Thank you @sharick. Afraid there aren’t many believers left on this site. We have the power to bind by rebuking the Devil in Jesus’ name. Vickie Jo Anderson wrote a book called They Only Come Out at Night, which I heard was very good. Haven’t read it yet. However, just saying, as I tried to type in the book title, I had all kinds of issues. Hmmm
… “Let not your heart be troubled”. I think there are more “believers” on this site than you may think. It is quite possible that they simply express their belief in ways that might be considered somewhat “unorthodox”.
Peaple can watch Fringe for free, no ads here-
