I wonder if he rediscovered (in a public fashion vs black budget already known) important useful properties and forms of plasmas and magnetism for transportation, energy, and antigravity and thus had to go.
Or if it was just ‘societal violence’

A closer look at his body of work shows a deep commitment to magnetic confinement, technology that, while already proven in engineering circles, hasn’t yet made its way into mainstream physics discussions. He was also a prominent advocate for the reality of 12,000-year magnetic excursion events, a topic gaining urgency among scientists “not read in” to the acceptable subject. If there was foul play involved, I strongly suspect it stemmed from his research into these periodic magnetic shifts, which likely put him at odds with those in power. His Portuguese background is interesting since it’s a little-known artifactual haven for antediluvian-ism.

I think he’s looking at how plasmas behave both at large and small-scale. He has worked on understanding how plasma tendrils break due to magnetic influences at small scale and how to effect magnetic reconnection. He’s also looking at using magnetic fields to separate and direct/control plasma streams and how their thermodynamics work and looking how to cool. He is trying to see how quantum computing / AI will help to operate controls looking at. While he is focussing on astrophysics environment, I’m getting he is also looking at lab generational and control. All to say it makes me wonder if he is tracking plasma/ionic drive engines for space travel (possibly zero point energy source) as well as how the Sun is behaving.

I’ve found he was very vocal about the cause of the periodic events being related not to the internal core/dynamo of the planet, but a “result of the periodicity of the cosmic plasma.” That is as close as public figure of this magnitude has come to identifying the existence of an Aether sub-quantum energy stratum, as we’ve seen for many years. Since frankly, Eugene Mallove, who was also terminated.
