I went to see the movie yesterday and left with mixed feelings. It clarified somewhat the DJT relationship to Roy Cohn, and it put into story context most of the critical information I’ve read in the past about the man and his nature (ego, bankruptcies, disloyalty etc).
My feelings were mixed. On the negative side character, motivations and origins of his business principles (Cohn - win at all costs and lie along the way) come to mind.
On the positive side, I found myself thinking the old adage ‘it takes a thief to catch a thief’, and the inclusion of the concept of payback for being wronged being an element of business practice (why Dems are so worried perhaps?).
The intent of the movie clearly is to paint him badly now I know among less committed voters, but the effect may actually be (as it was for me) to cement that he’s not a Saint by any measure and may be a bit of a devil, but he’s OUR devil and our best shot at dodging the looming political disaster.
If you want to maintain your mental image of DJT as knight in shining armor leading a pack of lions…don’t go see it.
