I will give the timestamp of the video wherein the title from the opinion is stated, but I’d feel it’s important to watch the first section of the video for the viewer to absorb and verify the credentials of the channel’s host. My best friend studied and degreed in geology at the undergraduate level. I would hazard a guess the channel’s host is either a teacher in some aspect of geology, or a working professional.
All of this lead in is vitally important in my estimation to establish this a man with weight in his words who is working off a trained perspective in dissecting this event
Now, trust but verify and all that, but at some point, if trust wins out, and given that the host never delves into speculative areas with his position , that just makes his idea all the more convincing.
Now for that timestamp. At around 8:34 the host begins sketching the topography of the region where the flow is believed to have started.
To illustrate (note the arrows and text are MY annotations) the opinion the host is forming:
This diagram and the description knocked me for a loop, because this is the first time in this event cycle I’ve heard a credentialed, serious-minded //academic// suggest that falling ROCK and //not// the collapse of the ice pack was the key driver of the disaster
Let me state this in a slightly different way. I personally have been very careful so far to NOT dive into any area of suggesting /any/ other causative factor than nature. I believed at the outset this had 0.0.% chance of any human involvement. No HAARP, no government fighter jets strafing dams upstream (are there a lot of non-frozen hydroelectric dams lingering around 10-20k feet in elevation in the Himalayas?), just plain ol’ Mother Nature and gravity and higher localized temperatures working at a glacier to send it careening down the mountain.
I have a sneaking suspicion, though I’m certain this channel host would never go out on this branch, that bringing the idea of collapsing stone shaved off of mountain rock (not a frozen block of water) has now put some element of THE POTENTIAL for (not a 100% certainty) human malfeasance back into the equation.
Collapsing stone won’t give two flying flips about 105 degree localized temperatures in the area.
Collapsing stone doesn’t care about “Global Warming”
Collapsing stone is probably impervious to temperature flux, shifting/melting ice, etc.
I’m now very much interested in the 4.8-5.0 Richter Scale earth displacement measured before the mud flow devastated Nepal.
I felt no concern prior to this video of any type of human meddling that might play into this event.
After the video, my mind is beginning to open itself up to other modes of explanation.
