I took a previous version of that article apart on another forum I am on to expose the kind of propaganda being disseminated, with the comment that it was legal in the UK for the government to request that newspapers run certain types of stories. I also suggested that perhaps the paper thought that Putin might be sending Boris and Natasha to get that little squirrel in Kyiv? The Daily Mail is always sensational, but this was so over-the-top it was almost comic book material.

Nobody outside of the usual London establishment takes the Heil seriously.

Educated people outside of London may not take it seriously, but many individuals who don’t read much news do. I’ve known some of them. Also, as I mentioned when I took on this part on my other forum, the UK Daily Mail has been a notable platform for the UK Government to test “trial balloons” on various stories and policies, gauging reactions. I suggested this, maybe because it is a tabloid, it makes it easier to “retract” things that don’t play well as a “misunderstanding.”
I’ve been reading them with this critical eye for nearly thirty years now, and they seldom disappoint. They also occasionally (like once or twice a week) have serious science stories they mangle, but almost always have good links to the sources, which is where I got for follow-up.

It could be worse - a friend of mine who I like as a person, but she is clueless geopolitically - just sent me a YouTube clip of a NeverTrumper woman I had never heard of: Cheri Jacobus (who looks like she knows where to find the Manolo Blahniks & has an account at stores on Rodeo Drive), who revived the Russia Russia Russia narrative about how Trump receives his orders from Putin and that’s behind the Trump/Musk spat.
I wish those ogres (the neocons) were as mockable as the Daily Mail!
