Folks a reminder again that there will be no News and Views this week as I am having all sorts of computer problems. The earliest they are saying they can get someone to come out and look at this will be Saturday, which does not give us much room as I’ve moved the vidchat to Monday. I am not, as of this moment, cancelling Monday’s vidchat, but keep your eyes peeled here for any schedule updates, and your fingers crossed that this is fixable… a brand new computer and only a few month’s use before my entire audio and video system crashed and burned.
I can identify.
I got a brand new desk-top computer and monitor.
Problems developed before the computer was even “connected”…
To the ubiquitous spider-web.
Every time the computer wants to “help”/uprade for free.
I decline.
Many times, “it” tries to imply

… if it is a Mac … do not, under any circumstances upgrade your OS.
Unfortunately it is NOT a Mac… it’s a PC and regrettably connected to Baal Gates’ Microst programs… had I known, years and years ago, what a colossal piece of you-know-what all Microst programs are, I would’ve gone with a Mac. Now I am stuck in a world that invents new hoops for everyone to jump through every two months. It’s getting ridiculous.
It’s been beyond ridiculous for some time, and Mac’s have their own sets of problems. Maybe if one had the means to “jailbreak” a Mac and run Linux it might make a climb to the top of the heap…MAYBE. But proprietary as they are, especially the new models…I personally don’t consider one brand any less junk than the other.
Think it all comes down to what one gets used to and therein lies the trouble…always changing/shifting/updating for profit (and hates) sake… Rent-to-never-own is all the rage now but it’s nothing new…
I’m still running (a broken, buggy, copy) of Windows 7 on an old, old PC. It’s still chugging along and does what I tell it for the most part. However, I’ve said it before but will say it again… once they will no longer allow “7” to access the internet…Mohgarr signs off for good (I actually got a little excited thinking about that!)
No big loss either way…
Actually I am thinking much the same thing… it is just not worth the hassle any more, except to stay in touch with the Gizars. But truth to tell, when Facebook told me I wasn’t me and no longer could access my account, I decided it was not worth it. And I don’t miss it. I’ve taken to sending family little newsletters, in the actual mail, inside an actual envelope, with an actual stamp.
… they were different until Steve died. It has been downhill ever since.
A few days ago I wrote a cursive hand written letter to a friend and was smitten by the nostalgia. Addressing the envelope, adding a stamp, folding the letter and taking it to the post office for delivery reminded me how people used to always communicate prior to typewriters, computers and telephones. Quaint.
…switch to Linux Doctor, the time is now…I recommend Ubuntu operating system for starters…easy to use and no crashes and burns…since it is not under the control of …well, you know who…
…or at least discuss this with your technical support, consider it as an option…I’m not advertising anything…there are other simpler versions of Linux OS like for beginners…I would also recommend Debian Linux OS but that’s for…others…
Wondering when the time will come when every time we try and access the internet our actions will be verified and notified. Everything we do will be tracked and have implied consent. They know how to herd us eh!

your ticked off!
I concur, shifting over to Ubuntu Linux is a good idea.
Even though I’m noticing small quality issues popping into more recent Ubuntu editions (my 22.04.5 LTS Ubuntu Dell Direct laptop with DE switched to KDE has very glitchy fingerprint reader support), I still think this system is superior to the Mac and especially recent Windows editions, which are very proinne to crashes in my experience.
Hoping your tech issues are sorted out soon Dr. Farrel!
