For a month Norway and Israel has been going at it, with israel sending their ambassador home as an answer to Norway acknowledging Palestine as a a sovereign state.
Now Israel has taken away the Norwegians working in the Palestinian areas on the West bank their diplomatic status.
( How they feel they can decide who gets to have what status in Palestine.I don’t know, but their hubris is in the max sone and has been for a while.)
Norways Espen Barth Eide calls it an extreme reaction and has had talks with several international relations who says they support Norway 100 % and that Israel have taken this too far.
He continues it has become clear that Israel does not want or works for a two state solution, and that it probably never was a goal of theirs.
Israel has been vocal towards Ireland and Spain for acknowledging Palestine as a state as well.
Norway says they will take steps to make their position even clearer in the near future and that israel will have their response, crystal clear, from the Norwegian government who says they are recognizing international law for all countries, and treat the Israel/Palestinian situation in the same way they have reacted to the Russian/ Ukrainian situation and that anything else would be hypocritical.
So now what will happen?
Doesn’t Israel have a history of “revenge” things like this?
Some (Norwegians) says Israel had more than a hand in the “Utøya massacre”, where Behring Breivik shot 69 members of the Labor party’s youth camp and that this was an answer to Norways views on the conflict in the middle east.
The Labor party’s youth party has a long history of supporting Palestine. 69 of them will not get to support the work for a Palestinian state after the massacre that took place July 22nd. 2011
