Look at the simplicity of the kit set-up. When someone can produce the roll from a kit like this, it makes them great!
Anyone who knows anything about John Bonham knew he hated touring with an intensity that depressed him like nothing else. He wanted to stay home on his farm with his wife and children and who would blame him.
When I was a kid working the concerts at Sam Houston Coliseum in Houston, I would bring towels and other items back stage (with HPD escort). When I put some wet, cold towels next to Bonham, he turned and looked at me with this surprised reaction, as it was obvious I was very young. Brief conversation was about if I was a native Texan, rode horses, etc. He later had Peter Grant (Mgr) leave me a $100 tip! In 1971, that was a lot of money for a kid. I was also allowed into the pit where the photos were taken. No matter whatās said about him and his really bad habits, yeah, they were bad, he was kind to me and when I watched him on-stage, his brilliance was immediately recognizable. Regardless of the genre, the majority of people intuitively recognize true brilliance, a gift if you will, when they see it.
Notice in this very early video, start min. 10:00 to get your bearings and at min. 10:10-10:15, well, my jaw still drops to this day.
