When I first moved to South Texas in 2012, the local law enforcement had a corrupt drug enforcement group, The Panama Unit, that included the than current Sheriff Lupe Trevino and his son who worked for the Mission TX police department. They would do a drug bust, keep them for sale up north. They sheriff went to prison and his temporary replacement was a constable from a very respectable long time local ranching family. He went on to win a special election to finish out the term and is still our sheriff.
