… HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA !

(I certify to whatever AI bot that censors GDS that the above is in fact a complete sentence.)

What do they fear…education ?

Education was made the road to social mobility, now there is more than enough “up there”, the elite class is getting over crowded, no need for more of them since expertise in a field is no longer a requirement. We’ve approached the point where not knowing what you’re doing is perfectly fine. It’s no longer a requirement in the elite managerial professional classes. Competency is not essential anymore, moving up is all that matters.
The younger generation was sold by their betters on getting an education as the way up and out of an ordinary life. Unfortunately their betters failed to develop the job opportunities so all they got was education loans they can’t pay back because the available positions are too few or reserved for those raised in the upper middle class who graduated from the prestigious colleges.

… Thought is what they fear. Illiteracy and anti-intellectualism are to be the order of the day. Inquiry is not to tolerated. The asking of questions is not to be allowed. There is to be no challenge to interpretation. There is to be no discussion concerning the method of discovery of meaning. Part of the censorship and repression of information is to avoid, either intentionally or accidentally, offering material with which to construct arguments that might lead to (undesired) conclusions.

No thoughts, no worries. Eloi and Morlocks. Prey and predators. Food and consumers.

… Walker Percy put it as follows: There are those that live in Worlds and there are those that live in Environments. Environments are Skinner Boxes writ large where there is only Stimulus-Response.
