… Rage (1 word) bait (1 word) = 2 words total
… so how can this be the “word” of the year? Just curious
One of the few places left; where there was actual competition.
Albeit; some words were literally excrement.
Although, in the 20th-Worst Century; that actually translates into, some rather " Stiff" competition.
An exercise in autological construction if ever there was one…the absurdity of the phrase, defined as a word, itself generating the reaction it claims to define…but aren’t such autological constructs the general direction of all language use now?
… Hey, maybe he can count words. He should post that “Rage bait” is two words. Showing the he can count might restore some of his stature. Counting to 2 is surely stature producing academic behavior (behaviour) at Oxford. Hmmmmm. Obviously there were consequences of some kind beyond his removal from the Debate Society. He is just sorry there were consequences.
Apparently, somebody is still literate enough at Oxford to draft an apology for the former president of their debating society (assuming they didn’t hire a public-relations firm to write it for them).
If only Oxford would hire someone to enforce a dress code for their debates. I can’t shake the feeling that the way this individual presented himself in the debate with Mr. Kirk was itself a deliberate insult.
