POPE LEO XIV TO CLERGY: DO NOT USE AI IN COMPOSING HOMILIES

Originally published at: POPE LEO XIV TO CLERGY: DO NOT USE AI IN COMPOSING HOMILIES

This story was shared by K.M., and while it may not seem all that significant, my high octane speculative antennae are pulsing with suspicion - to paraphrase that wonderful line from Sir Lawrence Olivier from the movie Sleuth - that this move portends further things to come, for reasons that I shall summarize after the article:…

This is very good news! That Pope Leo is displaying courage — because I think it takes courage to speak against the Technocracy culture.

Pope Leo is showing leadership on this nasty issue, beginning with Catholic clergy; and I hope this inspiring leadership and wisdom will also filter down into the wider society who are using AI for everything. We are in the “Transhuman” era, where people have given all thought, and all morality over to AI. People are behaving like zombies, just moving through life tethered to their handhelds, and you can’t even have a traditional, normal, mind-mind conversation with anyone without those stupid things being flashed in your face. Anytime you say something about anything, the other person, before replying to you, has to check that device, and then find something “relevant” to flash in your face.

A Vancouver provincial MLA (member of legislative assembly) recently debriefed (at about 12:15 minutes into the video) how she feels about having to listen, one after another, to boring and frivolous speeches of her fellow MLAs in the legislature, most of whom are all using AI to write their dreadful and meaningless speeches. She mentioned how she is one of the very few MLAs that writes her own speech. So, we’ve got a parallel situation as in the church – as AI strips meaning away from the church, so, too, does AI strip all the meaning away from what does it actually mean to be an elected member of the legislature, who is in a position of privilege in getting to be the one to speak on behalf of his or her constituents, but then uses AI to do this.

That Priests would even consider using AI as a medium to the spiritual is…?
Demonic.
Probably requiring a QR CODE for entrance.
AND, perhaps; instead of white…
The Priest is dressed in RED?

I almost want to stop reading, I’m so disgusted…
I’m AGAINST AI’s use…
No doubt; I’m using it when the computer fills in some program…
But, I don’t use it knowingly/purposely.

That LEO is against it; is a + .

A secondary reasoning of using your “spiritual” muscle?
That’s another + in my book.

Quite a twist in the plot!
24/7/365 clergy-surveillance-grid [LOL!!!]
LOVED IT!

Good news!!!; as far as I’m concerned.
Now, to see how the “Other-Side” of the coin…
Tries to: Flip-The-LEO-AI-Script… ?

… Well, it might help to slow the dumbing down of the Catholic Clergy. … or could it be the case that AI might generate arguments that the Clergy shouldn’t “see” … or might there be some interaction experience with the “agency” of AI that might be misinterpreted. … See if you can think of other reasons why the Pope might frown on such a thing.

SunnyBoy makes an interesting observation " … as AI strips meaning away from the church, so, too, does AI strip all the meaning away from what does it actually mean to be an elected member of the legislature, who is in a position of privilege in getting to be the one to speak on behalf of his or her constituents,"

Lets tweak this a bit … “… ordained member of the clergy … in getting to be the one to speak on behalf of God to his believers.”

I wonder if AI is involved in any of the Vatican’s day to day operations … If so, shouldn’t the Pope also forbid the use of AI in connection with any Vatican functions?

Is the pope saying God will not communicate with AI, so don’t go there. “God’s workers” who use AI are guilty of blasphemy and heresy?

Clergy does not speak on behalf of God. They communicate their faith to the rest of us. That’s part of that intentionality thing that dr. Farrell talks often about.

AI thing is a snake eating its own tail. Ultimately people will choose the imperfect men over the blips on silicone plate, because humans were made for each other, and that feeling/experience is ingrained in each and everybody soul by God.

I really like your faith and optimism that that will be the case.

Some people also predict a rather short life of this AI stuff, given the “high caloric” energy needs of this snake that is eating its tail.

… I think that there are those in many denominations (faiths) who might disagree with you and would support the idea that God speaks to his people through his “ministers”.

Isn’t the “God told me” at the heart of the prophecy bit for on-line preachers and some churches? An epiphany can be quite convincing and financially fruitful.
