Located in El Yunque National Forest. The Petroglyphs dates back to around 1,000 to 2,000 years old. The Taino deity is called Yucahú Bagua-Maorocoti, in their Pantheon he is considered the top god. He lived in the mountain, the place was considered sacred for the Indians. The only information that we got is from the Spanish chronicles.
The location is off limits, only archeologist are able to have access. Is very well guarded with cameras and a hard to reach area. The archeologists that have written about it, say that what’s up there is serious. Without knowing what they are, just by looking them, is serious folks. The petroglyphs are different from other Taino art found in San Juan, is more elaborated. Let’s just say, the petroglyphs are a subject of discussion. What were they thinking? I don’t know. There is a stone replica in the museum at the University of Turabo. A scan was taken and is on display.
