My playlist for Fourth Of July usually consists of John Williams, Aaron Copland, Robert Shaw Choir (and some of the old civil war songs) assorted American Pop Orchestra’s, obviously have to listen to the Overture of 1812.
Here is a new addition: A Russian Concert Pianist: Khatia Buniatishvili performing with a French Orchestra National de Lyon conducted by an American Conductor, Leonard Slatkin. That about sums up the American Revolution.
I’ll quote one of the comments on youtube because it works for me. And he is right Katia Totally Gets it.
I find her performance direct and evocative without being showy.
Just one guy’s opinion but, I think this is the most moving piece of music ever written. It’s got some of the musical stylings of the best of 20th century America. There’s: classical, jazz, big band, stride piano, a banjo, march tempo, blues, piano concerto and more. And in this performance… Khatia totally “gets it”. Her expressions, and her haute style adds an extra 1940’s swanky night club aura of suave glamor to this beautiful presentation. PS- I could watch this every day and get chills every time.
Get yourself a partner who looks at you the way Khatia looks at the clarinet player
