It is big news in Romania and The Netherlands. I do not think everywhere else.
The historic museum of Romania had lend some of their most valuable treasures to a museum in The Netherlands for a beautiful display of their history of the Dacians. But there was a break in last night and artifacts stolen.
The reason I post is two reasons. Anything this old getting stolen freaks me out. Because it is cultural heritage, it tells the story of our past, and our job is to take very good care of it so we can pass it on to the next generations. The idea these artifacts end up being melted down for the gold makes me ill.
And this museum of all the museums in the world has a special place for me personally. I grew up there and my grandmother and I went there a few times. This museum always have interesting displays of artifacts, the Dead Sea scrolls for example. The museum is in the North of the Netherlands a place where people leave they backdoor unlocked. Although the museum of course had protection.
But lets look at what the exhibition was about.
The Dacians. A group that lived near the Carpathian Mountains and west of the Black Sea. Now Romania, Moldova 2500 years ago.
Here is a link to their website, the exhibition information is still up. (I hope you can read in English with google translate)
That most valuable piece The Golden helmet of Cotofanesti has been stolen.
And more.
But those eyes. They look very Egyptian, are those snakes on the eyelids?
Anyhow.
For the people of Romania this is a disaster.
I pray they find it back. Please please do not melt it down!
In the news:
Here you can see how they got in, they used explosives. This is what the police released.
