Amid all the geopolitical fallout from the American-Afghanistan fiasco, there’s one story that slipped quietly under the radar this past…
Yes, surely Russia and Germany are natural allies; and did not the Anglo-American axis fight two world wars to prevent Russia and Germany combining against them as a serious rival?
How do you say Belt & Road Initiative! Which is why that equipment was left behind in Afghanistan and is now being moved into Iran. They need the Iranian ports. A lot of attention is paid to weapons sent to these places, but we hear nothing of how much construction and earth-moving equipment is being sent.
NS1 and NS2 can be considered as a modern day era Ribbentrop-Molotov Pact between RU and GER. It is a geopolitical move on a part of these countries and nothing else. No other countries were invited to build that pipe, even though it goes thru economic areas of several Baltic states. including Finland, Sweden, Poland, Estonia, Latvia. Even Ms. Merkel admitted so. This pipe will give Germany almost complete control over energy sources/prices to lots of Western EU, but real aim is at the Eastern Europe starting from Poland in the North and ending in Greece in the south. Putin with this pipe has hopes to bring Lukashenko(BY) and Zelenski(UKR) to his knees. There are already preliminary reports that Russia is periodically closing the gas pipe going thru UKR territory and that’s just a beginning. Germany on the other hand with a new pipe will have a great blackmailing tool. For Italy wanting to leave euro zone or for Central European and Balkan countries hesitating to implement a EURO as their currency.
And finally contrary to the popular opinion, that Germany needs a stable energy sources and only Russia can provide that, there is a plenty of gas off shore of Scotland and Norway that will gladly take German business. This is how Central and Eastern Euro countries are trying to prepare for the future blackmails of GER or RU. They are building Baltic Pipe Line with gas from Norway and UK.
QVBB: Extremely insightful post. Do you think this is part of a larger agenda; UN based or otherwise? Dumb question, I’m sure, but I have a habit of thinking there’s always a broader plan.
Your opinion is based on flawed and/or incomplete data.
The Baltic Pipe Line will have insufficient capacity to supply any other country than Poland itself. That capacity is more or less equivalent to the amount they are currently getting fro Russia through the Yamal pipeline where the current supply contract will have to be renewed shortly. It is not too interesting for Russia to renew this contract as the transit fees are in Polands favour and the quantity can be replaced by Nordstream 2 with less transit fee payments. Also, the volumes that the UK and Norway can provide are severely limited.
Southern Europe can be supplied from Russia through Turkstream, currently in operation. So that’s not a consideration.
The initiative for Nordstream 2 originally came from Merkel who needed a new energy supply since she had closed down coal and nuclear power stations to please the Greens. She needed their vote in the Bundesrat to pass laws she had initiated. Putin was initially not too interested in NS2 and Merkel had to push it through. Once committed Putin of course stood by his decision to build the line.
The Russians are of course interested in terminating the gas transit through the Ukraine. The lines are old (50+ years) in poor condition and poorly maintained and you don’t feed your adversaries if you can avoid it. With Turkstream online, a new gas transit line to China just inaugurated and NS2 coming online within a month the Russians are set up with partners they can rely on and the Ukies can go jump a lake.
All the while Gazprom’s revenues are soaring.
Sweden was asked to take part in building the pipeline as Russia asked Swedish state and local
gov to get access to harbors (also used as a military submarine base) on the Island of Gotland
and mainland town of Karlshamn and some other places. For some “undisclosed” reasons
(most likely pressured by USA deepstate , Stockholm is the European fiber hub in to the entire
east and USA /CIA have a big cyberintel department at their embassy) Sweden said no to both
those requests. During Jeltsin years Sweden , Finland and other countries was offered to buy
huge amount of gas and oil to rock bottom prices by Jeltsin and his oligarch mafia but declined.
Sweden Norway Finland all produce its own electricity mainly from water driven power plants
and nuclear (Sweden ,Finland and in time Norway) none of them are in the position to be black
mailed by some Merkel/Putin gas pipes!
By closing down nuclear and coal plants to please the green nazis Frau Hitler created a hyper
unstable power supply chain for the German industry.
In time the EU project will collapse and it may well be Germany who takes it down just
as USA right now is taking it self down.
Like I said, no other countries in EU were invited to participate in NS1 or NS2. This is about business and control. Russia is trying to reclaim her reign over former Soviet satellites, Germany on the other hand is trying to expand and control more firmly(Italy) a EU monetary union.
One thing is to help to build the pipeline, another thing is to be invited to participate in profits from it😏
At QVBB:
Its depends on what the contracts say and thats a “open” matter for the participants.
As part of Jeltsins offer was a pipeline to mainland Scandinavia. NS1 and NS2 origin
is in the Jeltsin era and we will newer know what happened behind all the closed door
meetings that took place unless someone leaks. And if we dig real deep into the old Sovjet
archives it would not surprise me if we find ideas and proposals of selling gas to Europe.
Looking back to Russia Ukraine “pre war” debacle lots of it is about unpaid gas bills and
theft of gas the war itself is a Russia Ukraine oligarchy driven war, very few talks about
the illegal Oil transports (mainly train) during past decades from Russia via Belarus to
central Europe.
The whole gas and oil thing may show up to be extremely fragile and may go bust
very fast, it all depends on the progress of new technology related to direct electrical
power generation and storage of it, if ever needed , big “surprises” is on its way.
Clinging onto god ole’ liquid carbon might be a death trap for investors/owners.
oh. u see. under the radar… wishful thinking.
i mean its still interesiting that all whatevers with pipes. put on helmets, going drillin’, good money, fast sleep. it was so.
as it could save us from ourselves. such a pity.
not in a good mood, sorry fellas.
It is a simple agenda since man put his feet on this earth. It’s who controls who and what, that’s all😁
Finland has quite a significant gas pipeline coning in from the Leningrad region built in the 1990’s. They always knew how to keep a good relationship with both USSR and Russia. Sweden always refused gas imports both from Norway and Russia but built a gasline from Denmark in the 1990’s.
Forgot about the Finland gas pipe, but Swedens gas use seams to be very ,very tiny compared to water and nuclear and even other types, it’s also geographically on a very small strip along the
west coastline 500km or so and primary use is as process gas for special industry, some few
small heat plants. Then some very few big cities who heats up some few apartments with gas
on a system perhaps 90-100years old designed for some other gas it seams and very localized
within those cities and in decline and quite vulnerably from a supply standpoint.
BioGas use in Sweden began as late as 1985 according to gov info and seams to be utterly
tiny like a tear drop in the ocean compared to the usage of central European countries.
(page 5 gives a overall picture). OBS! it’s gov politicized statistical propaganda material.

Quick search on Finland seams they also very very late on their gas grid and says based on
“climate change” nonsense agenda ocfourse , as all other countries in Europe do. Finlands
pipeline grid is almost as small as Swedens only the very south and a few couple of inland cities,
ridiculous at best! Gas transmission network – Gasgrid Finland
The EU crisis bunking regulation of gas is ludicrous 30 days max and only for
selected countries.
This move will empower Russia and it’s influence over its neighbors. Putin has made a resolve to bring back communist Russia after its decline to the west. We are seeing a major assault against free societies worldwide. Not sure if this will be of any benefit for Freedom.
You’re right about the Scandinavian countries not being very committed to domestic use of gas, possible exception Denmark, even though historically most if not all of the major cities had a gas distribution system. Not any longer.
The major gas suppliers to Europe though gas pipeline systems remain Russia, Norway and Algeria. The EU has tried to control this market for quite some time but mostly failing to do so resulting in an ever growing Russian market share. As for the LNG market there is only Russia and Norway supplying from Europe, forget the US they are hard pressed to supply their own market so they will not be supplying Poland etc with discounted LNG. So if the Poles go for that they will pay 30% + over Russian gas.
Germany and the gas issue may be what breaks the EU. If the German industry will not get cheap energy in adequate volumes there will be a great flushing sound coming from Berlin, I think. Add to this negative bank interest and you have a very strong case for the end of the EU,
I concur to your conclusion , then spice that with tiny bit of Covid1984 passports,
mandatory vaxxing and a bucket of Afghan/Syria refugees it may very well go kaput!
