Shipwreck of Shackleton’s Endurance, lost in 1915, discovered off Antarctica

I heard about this earlier today! The water so cold that the ship considered “pristine” in it’s preservation.

I read an account of Shackleton when I was nine in this Reader’s Digest book of tales, riddles and articles. Endurance was quite captivating with photos and illustrations and was the longest story in the book. Amongst other reasons, I liked it because it a somewhat obscure, you know? Only those with an ear for history knew of it and so it occasionally served as a secret handshake when engaging in conversation with someone new, so as to ascertain their knowledge of history a bit. Nevertheless, I am glad to see the ship intact and photographed.

(Please don’t tell me there is some secret connection between this expedition of brave and manly men and the recent visits to the continent, as chronicled on this website. Just want to keep childhood heroes just as they were.)
