Of course it’s going to be under an agreed upon “guise of scientific research”;
where all sides are pointing fingers at each other, as they swallow up the Moon.
You snooze you loose. Last one there is looser.
Of course, this assumes that the moon is a physical entity let alone that you can travel there and put a claim on it. Since 1959, the entire world governments agreed not to let anyone travel to Antarctica and then NASA was “born”. Some things simply do not add up. It is called arithmetic.
I think at some point someone actually had that meeting at NASA where the great and the not so good watched the ‘real’ footage and announced “we’re gonna need a bigger boat”
Still hard to imagine getting everyone including the Russians and Chinese to partner up on a world tour of fake space theatre.
There must have been some pretty compelling evidence in those early rock samples.
Or whatever they know about Antarctica. That is my guess.
I’m going to assume a lot of things including it’s possible to safely land humans (and get them back off) on the moon. Would China not have control of the ‘high ground’?
Just to inform you. I lived in Antarctica 1968-69-71-72. Traveled with 205 other men, and we built a lot of buildings. A nuclear reactor is situated on McMurdo Island. A tourist cruise ship makes an annual visit to McMurdo every season. Hundreds of scientists from many disciplines do research work in various places around the continent.
Did you make it to the south pole?
Good to know that there are humans who actually have accounts of their visits, at least to McMurdo (I have seen plenty of videos with weird explanations of compass problems). I am still curious as to why all the secrecy.
Yes. Our battalion were there to start the utility corridor for the new South Pole station that was to be built. A geodesic dome now exists there to house the scientific community. When we were there the old station was about 35’ to 40’ below the surface due to it being buried after many decades of snow accumulation. Large wooden beams were built over the buildings, and the snow was allowed to accumulate on the ‘roof’. Huge fans were used to bring the colder air down into the station in order to keep the temps as cold as possible, and well below zero in fact. Same with Byrd Station, all totally under snow.
Lots of hubris has spread about an ‘under-ground civilization’ in Antarctica. Most likely it is due to the ‘under-snow’ military bases, but there are folks who will ‘sell’ all sorts of alien civilization to the highly gullible. Sorta like a Religious Belief.
Wow, that sounds awesome!
Haven’t ever really thought much of going to Antarctica, not familiar with what the polices are about tourists going there?
There is a flat earth believer in my town, never met him myself but apparently he is 100% convinced the earth is indeed flat.
If expeditions have crossed across the whole continent, that would definitely discount that theory.
When you’re out on a giant landscape of ice though, how can you be certain of navigation?
The stars would be the most reliable I would think, but those can only be seen with clear skies of course.
The geographic south pole would be a ways away from the magnetic south pole, don’t know if they use compasses a lot still at NASA?
Satellites and GPS would probably be the way they mostly navigate these days.
Difficult to know what to believe without first-hand experience, got to build myself my own rocket ship so I can see for myself what that continent looks like from above.
The closest I’ve been to that kind of environment is Mt. Rainier, there is a cool bunker they built at Camp Muir there in 1921, here are some pictures of that and the summit plus videos of helicopter hauling out materials from the camp:

Compasses do not work very well near the poles as they do in the higher Latitudes. Remember, the Earth is slightly tilted on its axis, so the ‘spin’ velocity is also greater than it is at the Equator, as is the Earth’s ‘wobble’. Couple that with the extreme low temperatures, near darkness for much of the year, and the idea that it is a very harsh climate.
Possible reason for the idea of Secrecy: These days much more is known about Antarctica than in the 1930’s and 40’s. A fairly large contingent of scientists, geologists, and other disciplines make regular visits to the place every year, and a few of the bases have a small crew who ‘over-winter’. A few tourists make the trip to the Ross Sea, and down to McMurdo Island after the icebreakers clear the way, but they are only allowed to step onto land for a few hours. Best I remember it the ships came in right about Christmas or New Years.
If you want to look at the maps best place to start is New Zealand, then look towards the pole and find the Ross Sea. Then look deeper into the Ross Sea for McMurdo. It lies very close to the main continent, and some maps may also show Mt Erebus. It is an active volcano. So, right in that area is the point near the permanent ice shelf, and the area the ice breakers come in to clear the way for the cruise ships, but more importantly the cargo ships that haul the bulk of supplies [food and other stuff], and the real heavy stuff such as vehicles, bulldozers and building supplies. Not shown on the maps I have looked at is the military air base situated on the permanent ice shelf near McMurdo.
From South America down to Antartica you should read Joesph’s books on that subject since it is nowhere near where I was.
Actually, Antarctica is a huge continent with several huge, ginormous mountain ranges, as well as what appears to be lots of ‘flat’ areas. Highly doubtful that many, if any expeditions have crossed the whole continent lately, but so far as the distant past goes it is a good probability. So, my guess is it’s all about navigation by way of the sun, moon, stars, and planets. Perhaps throw-in a little bit of gravitational affects, and a few other things too.
For a truly mind-expanding trip, go here [Explainer: Earth’s Tectonic Plates]
Also look at this graphic of the tectonic plates[1 billion years of tectonic plate movement] (1 Billion Years of Tectonic Plate Movement in 40 Seconds)
There’s a cool animation of projected plate movements for the future at the Berlin natural history museum, they predict that Mexico is going to split in half in about a hundred million years.
That link didn’t seem to work but looks like this is the page you are talking about:
Of the seven continents it is the largest.
Ok, to your point about ‘secrecy". I’ve posted this idea’ in the past, and here it is again, and then go read further down:
Antarctica seems to have a special, even weird effect on a human’s mind. It is difficult to reach, and very isolated, but the Moon is far more isolated.
A few military personnel, and scientist spend the winter in total isolation in Antarctica. Meaning, they are so isolated, and so far beyond any help should ‘stuff’ go sideways or when ‘stuff’ breaks-down. So, it is a good training ground to discover which humans are best able to cope mentally with an even stranger, more hostile environment on the Moon. For instance, we all had to ‘pass’ a tough phycological exam to determine if we could mentally cope with the mental stresses. Perhaps more importantly, what happens to your mind when the mechanical stuff does not work?
Example: at Siple Station we were constructing another structure, and the equipment we used had gone through 2 years of testing in the upper Canadian winter landscape to be certain it would work. But it did not work in Antarctica. Go figure!
You too can enjoy a penguin or two…
