Funny that the publication from The Council of Foreign Relations is publishing an article to celebrate their victory lap, finally the USA has been knocked off its pedestal. Our various shenanigans have worked… now we can get on with the rest of the show.
The essays in their rag are based on the narrative we are not supposed to question or criticize. This one even chastised Trump for claiming the “deep state” existed. CFR essay writers provide a nice echo chamber that allow other members not in the know, to know the official “party line”. The journal used to be by USPS mail subscription only prior to the Internet website. Now current issues are available on line without a subscription. Umm
… ah yes, the good ol’ CFR. The Joyce Carrol Oateses, the literary Kardashians, of the so-called sub-discipline of Foreign Relations / International Affairs (since there is no longer anything practiced - and hasn’t been for some time - that legitimately can be referred to as “Diplomacy”) of the so-called discipline of Political Science. After all, as the Marquis de Sade has taught us, “discipline” entails certain unpleasant necessities and inevitabilities.
P.S. … as a fellow of a certain age I am glad to see that you have been deemed “regular” by the Gods of Giza.
Yes for me this is a “go to” site as part of a daily routine acquired since retiring a couple of years ago leaving the luxury of unbridled time. It’s kinda like the Zero Hedge site but gathers interesting tidbits of sidebar ideas, some that are unfamiliar which necessitates further inquiry and research. Like for instance the reference to Carol Oates and the CFR members. Having no idea who she was and being intolerant of unknown word definitions or unfamiliar names I come across, some digging had to be done to give meaning to the passage.
Well, seems her writing brought to light a critique of those who base their lives on materialism and what others think enabling them to suppress their own conscience. (Her own life story seems quite traumatic, paternal suicides, crazy neighbors etc.). Her first book of short stories was published by Vanguard Press (later absorbed into Random House in 1988) which was a left wing publishing house partly financed by the Garland Fund that was started by Charles Garland who refused his inheritance since he didn’t earn it, some was convinced by Upton Sinclair to accept it and donate the proceeds to NGOs that sought to change the system he didn’t like that produced the funds! The wealth was generated by stocks in his grandfather’s position as vice president of New York National Bank…His own father died when he was seven years old, guess he was pretty traumatized and pissed off at his dad for doing that…
He was educated at Eton and Harvard due to his family’s wealth. Evidently his reading list and educational experiencen produced a contrarian😂. Yeah, sometimes posts are kind of esoteric, somethings you just gotta know to understand them. Good for the noggin! I prefer that rather than crossword puzzles…
