So our Government Officials hot trot off to Brussels ( and I guess privately NATO, though we’re supposedly neutral and non aligned) with dire words of protest by Foreign minister et al for Russia!. Shock and horror the Russians are coming (200 kms of the south west coast of Ireland) . Meanwhile the Irish Fishermen worried about disruption to the fishing , hot trot to the Russian Embassy in Dublin Ireland and with a single conversation sort out the this International Issue and threat to EU and NATO issue, according to MSM globally. How to de-escalate an crisis! Irish fishermen agree to buffer zone for Russian Navy exercises
I gather that there are Atlantic Cables that just happen to mostly meet up in this area, I can’t prove it but that has been discussed in some places. Also, looks like the UK and the Americans will be “monitoring” this, so it could get “interesting.”
As I told a friend in the US, this could be anything from a sort of intimidating “Nothing Burger” (in the long run) to placing ships directly near the cables to be able to cut them if Putin decided to really “go for” Eastern Europe and a lot of things inbetween.
My hunch is that unless something serious happens, the public isn’t really going to know and I hope the fisherman have the sense not to create an incident and have their ships rammed and boarded which this morning the Russians said they will do (per the Irish Journal).
The Russians moved off without incident, no doubt they have left presents on the telecoms/internet cables which are in the area alright. Moved on to that part of Norway where similar nexus points for the type of cables can be found. Am sure the West’s intelligence agencies like GCHQ in UK don’t have some magic gizmos which end up doing the same function, though perhaps not underwater. Interestingly, recall the collisions of the USN ships McCain and Fitzgerald , occurred whilst also tracking along the international telecoms/internet lines contemporaneously to those collisions. their is something about those cables and Russian sub technology.
