SpaceX Starship exploded on splashdown. Video of its descent as it hit the ocean is available on RT.
The explosion was not considered a failure, as the spacecraft was not designed to be recovered from the ocean. Many previous Starship test flights have also ended with the vehicle exploding during reentry or landing attempts, but SpaceX treats these incidents as part of its rapid development program.
Geez, maybe something like this could explode over DC as fireworks for the July 4th 250 anniversary celebration?
Great thought but not likely. Hope others here will post news of other SpaceX Starships falling back to Earth.
Interestingly, when Holllywood was bringing Clear and Present Danger[1994] to the silver screen; the executives decised to cut the sceen of the DC Captital Building being destroyed by a Boeing 747 crashing into it. They thought the audiences across the U.S. would get up out of their seats and cheer!
Standing Ovations for an ending that the public could readily endorse!
