I Listen to all, believe none, be prepared for anything and avoid any emotional attachment to any one theory. I can see many people beeing swept away by one train of thought or the other, you should hear what the “Q” community came up with, its quite challenging to wrap ones mind around some of them.
Ironically, in the core of all of them, remains wishful thinking. while claiming to have a solid grasp on reality.
I can’t wait to read what they will write about this aera in fifty years from now.

Since you mentioned “Altered Carbon”, wouldn’t an extende lifespan lead to " a state of sustainable decadence" as described by Ross Douthat ’s The Decadent Society and eventually backfire?
Nature seems to have a way to force balance even if it means extinction and considering the relatively short lifespan of humans, there will always be risk taking and sudden changes of heart.
Last thing you want is an immortal evil.
Perhaps a reason for the fall?
