Symphonic Festival March in Celebration of the Inauguration of Donald J. Trump as the 47th President of the United States of America

In tribute to Donald Trump’s unique victory, I have composed a Festival March honoring him and his family on this historic occasion.
Regarding the March, since it may be helpful to better understand the music, a few “program notes” are provided here to clarify the process with which the piece was crafted. The themes are structured around a simple substitution cipher. The opening fanfare spells out the notes corresponding to T-r-u-m-p, with each note added sequentially to the chord played by the brass. After a reference to Hail to the Chief, with the bass-line again spelling out T-R-U-M-P, the first theme is introduced, in octave unison, played by the french horns, which spells out D-o-n-a-l-d-T-r-u-m-p. Then, in 4 part harmony, the names Ivanka, Eric and Melanija are added. In a reflection of the President’s freewheeling style, the harmonies expansively modulate through some rather unrelated keys by the end of the first section, going from D major to,finally, B major. At the conclusion of the main theme’s exposition, there is a brief bridge using the notes for M(F#)-A-G-A.

The second, more lyrical and gentle theme then comes in with a rendering of Melanija Knavs’s full name [original spelling] followed by Barron and MacLeod [Donald’s mother’s maiden name], reflecting the softer side of his family. After some development, a bizarre interruption occurs, becoming more dissonant with each louder intrusion. This references the cacophonous braying of the Democrats, symbolized by the use of the main theme of Sousa’s Washington Post march, clearly apt given that rag’s status as a chief leftist propaganda mouthpiece. The rude intrusion is finally silenced by the musically transcribed “D-o-n-a-l-d-T-r-u-m-p” motif. Then, a new, even more assertive and martial statement of the first theme returns, with two brief interrupting episodes reflecting his gratitude for being saved twice from assassination, the first ending with a trumpet motif reflecting his “Fight, Fight” call after being shot, then the second proceeding to a more solemn, reverent coda after modulating back to the tonic key, in the manner of his self-admitted recursive verbal wanderings: “You will have this beautiful flowing sentence where the back of the sentence reverts to the front”. It re-states the main theme more gravely and dramatically, ultimately combining it with the opening phrase of Amazing Grace: “Amazing grace, how sweet the sound”. Fine laus Deo.

We continue to pray for this country, the safety of Mr. Trump , his family and associates, and that his administration will promote the best for all of us!

NOTE: Rather than just clicking on the link, the music sounds much better if it is downloaded and played thru VLC or WMP, which allows enhancement of the sound via the equalizer and other settings on your playback device, and if listening on a phone, earbuds are essential .

Thank you, White Raven, for sharing your lovely and fascinating (and very sophisticated!) composition with us! Thank you for the interpretive notes as well, which are very helpful to follow as one listens one’s way through the piece!
We hope that you can find a live orchestra to play this piece for the inauguration of your incoming President!

We picked up a range of emotive qualities throughout your piece – sombreness (of the times), turbulence and disquiet, striving, dignity, hope, exuberance, jubilance, respect, and grace, among a wide range.

You are very talented, and with you here, forget about the Giza Death Star band – we are a thriving Giza Death Star Symphony Orchestra!

(I have been enjoying hearing just how many musicians there are on this Forum – it seems that many people have studied and/or play some kind of musical instrument!)

Happy Musical New Year!

Thank you, Sunnyboy, for your kind comments. I am glad that it touched you, and hope that others will share the sentiments expressed by the March as you did. My hope is that it bolsters, in some small way, our sense of cautious hope, thankfulness, & expectation for the opportunity we have to reverse some of the negativity with which we are faced. It is another attempt on my part to advance and preserve civilized culture, expressing some joy, beauty and creativity in the face of the nihilism and darkness we are force-fed daily by our society. I am, as you are, also so pleased there are so many artistic/creative types here, foremost of whom, of course, is Dr. Farrell himself!
Blessings to all and prayers for a peaceful and prosperous 2025! Now, y’all get working on Mr. Castro, uh, I mean Trudeau, up there, eh !

Your recognition of the importance that all of us play in building and maintaining a civilized society, and your doing what you can, in your own way, to bring that about does shine a light for all of us, and inspires us to do similarly. If enough of us take your attitude to heart, and do what you do, then the dark nihilists don’t stand much a chance.

Interesting piece. I mostly liked it minus the lack of rhythmic diversity. Could have longer notes and maybe less of a plodding feel. It is hard to get away from that when composing on a computer.
Well done over all and thank you for sharing.

Hi Chris,
Being a march, it might be strange to have much rhythmic diversity without causing the need for some interesting choreography ! And there are a lot of us plodding through the swamp these days anyway!
The important thing is that we all need to look forward to “building and maintaining a civilized society” to quote Sunnyboy. Hope the music lifts our spirits as we move toward that goal.
Thanks for your feedback and interest!
