Subject matter; with countless interpretations.
Hence, the popularity of it; as we’re all imperfect.

Fortunately…?
Most of us, are able to realize it.*

*[Although, I wonder about some platform monopolists, and their ilk]

In the general run of things only psychopaths, sociopaths and narcissists insist on imposing perfection on others in my view. That is the rub and the driver for perfect control of an imperfect domain. We will feel the pain and struggle of that, but nature and natural law will prevail in the end somehow. It always has in the past.

I am surprised they used the word ‘cartoon’ instead of sketch or outline , for a work from the 1500s. I have taken a lot of art classes and drawn for fun and cartoon was always a comedic lampooning or caricature, to me.
‘Mary’s features were traced from a cartoon, but her exuberant drapery was drawn freehand with a fine brush.’

But apparently the ol’ dictionary has it has a third-rate definition lol:

  1. A drawing depicting a humorous situation, often accompanied by a caption.
  2. A drawing representing current public figures or issues symbolically and often satirically.

a political cartoon.

  1. A preliminary sketch similar in size to the work, such as a fresco, that is to be copied from it.

But this is educational for me:
It became fashionable to leave works incomplete, so much so, that it became an aesthetic term ‘non-finito’ (literally meaning ‘not finished’).

Thanks for sharing.
My first thought in reading the topic was not about artwork, but that ‘the joy is in the Work, the Going, we are never done’

A Great Culture; especially in the arts…
As above, or in poetry, or in cooking, or even in the martial arts - like Judo…
Not offensive; but using opponets offense, against him - by redirecting his energy.

Shogun was a great novel.
The last page, was masterful…
Turns out, there was a spy who…

Another long forgotton novel by Richard Condon’s ARIGATO.
[of Mile High fame: the “real” Godfather novel; ironically, came out in same year as Puzo’s]
Again, builds up to litreally the LAST LINE!
[Probably out oif print.]

Also there is a term I learnt in Japan, wabi:
In traditional Japanese aesthetics, wabi-sabi (侘び寂び) centers on the acceptance of transience and imperfection. It is often described as the appreciation of beauty that is “imperfect, impermanent, and incomplete”

wabi alone is sober refinement
