The digital pound

How do I weigh a digital pound on my weight?
And how many digital pounds does my wife weigh, and how do I break it to her??

What about this would be any different than using a debit card from a bank, isn’t that already a digital currency?

Quite…We’ve all been on the Truman show so long that we can’t break the habit…Money is simply a Promise of sorts…

I get there is a significant difference between physical currency to digital, just not clear on what specific difference there is to what they are now announcing to the digital systems banks already use.

I remember that movie scared me so bad as a kid I started looking for hidden cameras everywhere after seeing that.

Well, Cash is anonymous, so perhaps it’s the last vestige of wiggle room we have left, regardless of how it’s value is manipulated or altered… To go digital is become an Avatar in a game… probably the hunger games.

I was 26 at the time, and my father had just died suddenly due to medical malpractice/ misdiagnosis… When I was a kid, it was “Logan’s Run” that freaked me out…

Two words : Zardoz.

Yeah, but pay no attention to Connery’s thong…or the Man behind the curtain… :laughing:

The difference is major. This is a prototype of a CBDC, which would be very different from the digital money we use today, in the following ways:

  • The CBDC would be issued by a central bank directly to consumers, which isn’t how digital money works now.
  • In contrast to debit cards, wire transfers, and other digital transactions we use now, a CBDC could be programmed so that the central bank could automatically:
    (1) track each specific digital pound wherever it goes, every time it changes hands;
    (2) control what each digital pound can and cannot be spent on;
    (3) control the geographical area where each digital pound can or cannot be spent;
    (4) freeze or confiscate all or part of anyone’s bank account, based on any parameters they choose, and do so using AI and/or some kind of digital algorithm.
