The Feeling That Nothing Is Fun Anymore - Getting Old or a Form of Psychological Warfare?

As I’ve spoken with people since Covid, watched them in stores and restaurants, listened to what they say in conversations with others, I’ve heard this phrase a number of times… “I’m not depressed, or angry, nothing like that. It’s just that nothing seems fun anymore and I don’t know what to do to change it.”

The video below just happened to pop up in my feed and explains it well. I can’t speak for the advice it gives, as many report that people aren’t even trying for ‘fun’ anymore; they’ve given up. Yes, some of this comes with aging but it seems more than that.

I definitely view it as some sort of stage of psych warfare but I’m no expert and have no idea of the technical name but, I’m hearing it more and more.

I have a lot of fun a lot of the time: the joy of the Lord is my strength! :grinning:

Made myself laugh by misreading a crossword clue: Spinster who broke the 1000m record. I was flummoxed for a minute then realised it was Sprinter. Been chuckling ever since. Sprinting spinsters are GO.

I’m getting on in years, live alone and no longer have a dog to keep me company but that’s no excuse to be miserable - life is what you make it.

@undine I have my fun things as well; although fewer and fewer people to do them with as time rolls on. This is why I say it’s some form of psych being put upon people, esp. young people. I can see why they feel this way; they were raised in a different time, with a different ‘spirit’. Most of all, they were raised by electronics.

I find drinking and really dumb short term girlfriends helps.

But seriously, hobbies and interests make life a deep vibrant experience. “Do Something You’re Interested In”. All will be well.
