The Herculaneum papyri consist of over 1800 papyrus scrolls that were carbonized during the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 CE. This collection represents the sole surviving complete ancient library. Today, innovative X-ray methods are finally making it possible to decipher these scrolls after millennia of obscurity.

⦠I believe I have read of a cache of scrolls also found at Akrotiri. Hopefully the Herculaneum Papyri will contain much unknown material or material previously mentioned in other texts but now thought lost. I hope there was added a particularly horrific Circle of Hell for those involved with burning The Great Library of Alexandria and The Mayan Codices. Yes, Diego de Landa Iām referring to you. I also hope that with the number of ancient Mayan (and other) structures now being located by LIDAR that, when searched, will be found to contain many a cache of Codices that escaped destruction.
