The Pragmatist on X: “Perhaps nature is healing after all.” / X
May this trend Compound EXPONENTIALLY!
Though I enjoy the sentiment and the lack of Iambic pentameter-ish top 40 hits… Have to disagree that nature is healing.
It’s more like a false reprieve. Our date with Destiny has all but been confirmed…and from here it looks like Destiny is a 60 year old trans-sexual, heavyset, chain-smoking trucker in drag with an “anything-goes” attitude
I prefer the classic acts of the Sixties, Temptations, Supremes, etc. The Motown acts went through a finishing school, and I considered them more mature than the White acts overall. The White bands were well produced though, a requirement for radio play, but often got by on Garage Rock.
Little Richard also had some talent, both business and performance. He was behind/wrote for some of the more popular stars of that era. Underappreciated.
… as always … things aren’t always as they seem … almost all of those folks down there in Laurel Canyon had family intelligence connections of one kind or another.
Weird Scenes Inside the Canyon: Laurel Canyon, Covert Ops & the Dark Heart of the Hippie Dream by David McGowan
A good book… and one I used in Microcosm and Medium.
Little Richard, a favorite of the Beatles. Often saw him on the Tonight Show.
That book was something… I wasn’t very happy after reading it though, because its a bit painful to let go of - most - of our “heros”, so to speak.
Then, Microcosm and Medium also completely changed my worldview (actually I am re-re-reading it!)
Haven’t read this book but have a couple of others on Laurel Canyon and Look Out Mountain.
Hear, hear @Mohgarr, I’m with you on that one (apologies to the good Doc!). I’m a rocker and heavy metal headbanger from a young age! No use for Rap (or, Hip Hop as they relabeled it), though there actually are a few rap songs I can tolerate and actually find kind of fun!
If nature is healing and rap is going away, what’s replacing it may be far worse. Here is a rock song titled “Lose Control”, by Saint Vice. Since we’re not able to banter in person, I’ll give you the spoiler. The lyrics and the singing are AI generated. The album cover (as seen on Spotify) is also AI generated and the band, Saint Vice, doesn’t appear to exist!
So, while Rap, vile as much of it is, seems to be fading away, at least the rappers were live humans! Which is worse - rap or fake AI crap that’s hard to distinguish as being AI? Neither, I’d say, but I really cringe at where the music industry is going. And for the good Doc if you’re reading this, I am also a big fan of Classical music, mainly Baroque!
Which books are those, Bill? - I’d like to read more about it
I don’t remember the titles of the books. The content was about the connections between many of the Laurel Canyon musicians, Sharon Tate murders, Charles Manson, Jim Morrison of the Doors rock band and his father’s Navy connection to the Viet Nam war escalation caused by the false flag Tonkin incident and the CIA’s role is spreading LSD into the counter culture of the 1960’s. Basically what David McGowan‘s book lays out.
