The Necessity Of War Virtues For Mankind

Came across a speech delivered at Stanford University in 1906 prior to WWI written by William James who was a pacifist and established psychology as a science. The article helps explain why we humans continue to engage in destructive wars even though we understand why we do, yet don’t. Evidently there’s no substitute for valor and toughness, otherwise we would deteriorate as a species, so James claims.
