“The proposed solution to the public’s distrust in democracy… is less democracy.”

I just came across this in an Open Society Foundations document about how to fix public “mistrust” of liberal “democracy,” and I honestly feel sick reading it. I’ve read many alarming quotes, but few are so “mask off” like this.

“I believe the time has come for a responsible, courageous elite, those who care far more about addressing the genuine social problems than about election results. Only a political elite with vision, prudence and a focus on the general good—to whom the electorate… can cede part of their sovereignty in the elections—will be able to justify public trust and spearhead… our struggle to survive.”"

Read that again. The proposed solution to the public’s distrust in democracy… is less democracy.
An unelected “elite” to whom the public should cede sovereignty.

Abolish democracy to save democracy. This kind of thinking is what we’re up against.

Here a interview with Jacques Baud. It has some great insights about that topic. I don’t care much about the proclaimed system. Do you see the west as a “democracy” whatever that is? If anything “the west” is a dictatorship where politicians do the bidding of mighty corporations! The west is trying to implement that the world over.

I rather have leaders with virtue and integrity then this psychopatic rabble pretending no evil is attached to them, and oh dear when we point out to those self appointed emperors they have no clothes on, we get demonitised or worse!

Do I believe a word with what thinktanks come up with? No, especially not westerrn ones. In the end , us the citizens will have to recapture our freedoms by implementing virtues and integrity within ourselves and project it outside of us insted of counting on and do endless debates what system to live under! This won’t be a peacefull transition I am afraid, if we want freedoms we will have to fight for it.

Beautifully said, Neru!

When this happens, our world will be much different…

> “Democracy, which is a charming form of government, full of variety and disorder, and dispensing a sort of equality to equals and unequals alike.”
“Tyranny by its very nature arises from democracy, and the worst form of tyranny and servitude proceeds from the highest and most extreme liberty.”

the first ‘charm’ is a sarcasm, the second is plain observation. from who do these come from?
