The time has come ... A Book Forged in Hell: Spinoza's Scandalous Treatise and the Birth of the Secular Age by Steven Nadler

“Following this example of the Pharisees, the vilest of hypocrites, urged on by that same fury, which they call zeal for God’s law have everywhere persecuted men whose blameless character and distinguished qualities have excited the hostility of the masses, publicly denouncing their beliefs and inflaming the savage crowd’s anger against them. And this shameless licence, sheltering under the cloak of religion, is not easy to suppress.” - Baruch Spinoza from The Theological-Political Treatise

Nadler’s book is on Spinoza’s Treatise

Bravo FiatLux! A most excellent updating!

… Nice! Fiat (need to get rid of the post must be 20 characters prompt) … repost of previous post
— I tried to reply to Fiat with a smile only to have a prompt appear stating that my reply must be at least 20 characters. Why must a post be at least 20 characters? I guess the software “needs” … (software can’t really need) … Does it “need” at least 20 characters in order for the info harvesting software to kick in? Has it been determined that “meaningful information” (translate salable data for GDS) can only be obtained in strings of 20 characters or more?

I am reminded of a story about The Amazing Randi’s (I know, but still, like in every bad book or film there is usually one good idea) encounter with a pair of famous Russian (I believe they were Russian, I’m going from memory here) palm reading sisters. Randi walks in, sits down, and offers his palm. They immediately begin to ask him questions through the interpreter. He doesn’t say a word. The chatter both between themselves and the interpreter increases. Finally, Randi asks the interpreter what all the chatter is about. The Interpreter tells Randi that they wish he would say something. Aaaaahhhh, yes … now I get it.
