Vaccines have been mandated for our livestock, from cattle to poultry, for the last 20 years (that I have been in the business). You can not sell to the corporation (USDA) and it is TIME to riot. (Thank you, Brussels). You can’t be involved in expensive horse competitions unless you vaccinate your prize animals. You don’t have to BUY synthetic food, let alone eat it. You can grow so much of your food in a planter on your deck or under lights in your spare bedroom if you really care. There are organic farmers near almost every city from whom you can buy your protein and your vegetables… but you have to do the leg work and find the coop that is dispersing it.
We raise poultry here for eggs and I started growing sprouts to improve our eggs. In a short amount of time, we have started seeing better production at a time when hens normally are looking at the sky and reading the thermometer. Ours are currently OUTSIDE (it was 14F for the last two nights) and the girls are producing like mad. Roosters are for food, if you have to buy unsexed chicks, but raising your own eggs is really not that hard. (Of course, I have Great Pyrenees that sleep next to the pen so varmints are just not a problem anymore.) Any good dog would do, really.
My point is that we are entering a time when we have to start taking charge and quit thinking that our food is at the grocery store.
