Born and raised here. 4th generation Texan. Owned multiple properties here in Texas. Lived to see the highest property tax rate ever and higher than almost any State in The US. “…But there’s no State Income Tax”, you say. Trust me, they make up for it in property taxes.
I disagree. I lived in a 6 million acre NY state park on 30 acres and my property taxes were about $22k per year, no services available, about the same as owning a single property in West Lake, Austin, TX (with services). Because TX has a wildlife/agriculutral exemption, like TN, my property taxes on over 600 acres is half that.
I will say that if you are REALLY concerned about taxes, TN is your answer. No state tax and with ag exemptions, the annual taxes are almost nothing.
The fact is that if at all possible, don’t live in a city or municipality.
For all those who want to move to anywhere else, better giddy up and go while you can. Just remember, Trump did not rescind EO13603. (Funny how he left that one in place…)
It depends on your perspective as to who the CIC ACTUALLY is at the moment.
Who has the “nuclear football”?
Helps to look at later EO’s as well.
There’s many more avenues TPTB can take other than nuclear in order to seize property and people. Much of it has played out before our eyes in the last couple of years.
There is no safe place. People will have to be willing to walk away, no matter where they live.
For people over 40, don’t get hooked up with Ag land, etc. in Texas. You’re anchoring yourself into an expensive deal right now that might end up being an albatross in the near future.
