President-elect Donald Trump has nominated Tulsi Gabbard, a former Democratic congresswoman actively serving as an Army Reserve officer, to be his director of national intelligence (DNI). Tulsi served in the U.S. House of Representatives for eight years, but she finally left the Democratic Party and became an Independent.

Near the start of the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine, Gabbard raised concerns about the presence of U.S.-funded biological research laboratories in the Ukraine. The U.S. Department of Defense has since confirmed it did indeed fund the Biological Threat Reduction Program (BTRP) and has supported other laboratories in the Ukraine dealing with biological threat detection. Other informed sources contend those laboratories were actually meant to ‘develop’ biological threats i.e. a specific ‘bird flu’ that could and would cross over into a human host.
Gabbard has also expressed support for Julian Assange and Edward Snowden and in November 2020 called on Trump to pardon both Assange and Snowden, two men who engaged in efforts to publicize U.S. national security information. Snowden was a contractor for the U.S. National Security Agency who, in 2013, exfiltrated and helped publish information detailing the agency’s digital surveillance programs and practices.
