The big issue is one of trade. If euros trade w/ Russia they’ll gravitate towards an alignment with them and away from the US’ sphere of influence. This aligns with Biden Inc being invested in US LNG, which is out-competed by Russian pipeline gas.
Zelensky was installed by the CIA, so he must have started out as their guy. Which is why he had no problems with the Ukraine being used as a cat’s paw, similar to how Poland was used by France and UK in the runup to WW2.
I have a feeling Putin made Zelensky a counter-offer he couldn’t refuse.
