In my opinion local compute is on the way out given all the datacentres being stood up.
Here are a few of the implications just off the top of my head, and why its going to get very real very soon for all of us.
End of local compute leads to;
Subscription models for all digital services.
Media Streaming only, no local archives or archival tools, twilight of physical mediums.
Cloud compute, crypto currency and gas to use the world machine (like ethereum).
Total loss of privacy.
Editing of history.
Mass surveillance.
Pre-crime algorithms.
Downgrading of non augmented humans to second class citizens.
