Consider the Moai of Easter Island.
Most of the world was convinced they were just “heads”.
They are full bodies and only a small percent have been exposed.
Many also have unexplored Rongo-Rong inscriptions.
Evidence shows they were not buried but covered by natural sediment.

And, if earlier accounts are anything to go by, they seemed to have an unpleasant tendency to move around when no-one was looking…
