Nothing new here…having been married to an abusive, religious conman for 18 years I have seen close up how the naive, good “Christian People” are so easily manipulated!! That is why I came to the conclusion that The Bible has been one of the best tools in The Toolbox of our Controllers. I know I, myself, was brainwashed for 70 years of my life!! The two men at the Tip of The Spear on unveiling what has been going on are Hebrew Scholar, Mauro Biglino with his book, “The Gods of The Bible” & Anglican Priest, Paul A. Wallis with his book, “The Eden Conspiracy”!! Seems this is all a part of The Great Awakening!!

I agree. The bible does seem to have been used by people to control, and even harm, others and so I can appreciate why you’ve been turned off. I’m not so sure, though, that it’s the bible itself doing the deeds, or people (mal)interpreting it and then using it as a weapon do dupe others into obeying arbitrary orders to harm.

For a time, I had some difficulty picking up a bible and reading it. Firstly, I did not understand what it was about. It seemed to me to be a war chronicles book, emanating vibes of violence, along with being a kind of family geneologybook. And then, there are many different versions, each reading slightly differently.

I know how very important the religious organizations (churches, mosques, synagogues, temples, etc.) are in terms of providing foundations for community building, so I don’t like to knock them, even though I haven’t yet found one that is a good fit for me. Over the years, I’ve developed a practice to be open to picking up wisdoms inherent in all religions, through friendships with people of different faiths and cultures, through books, through the occasional visit to a church with a friend, pondering a wisdom gleaned, and leaving off the dogmatic ideological stuff to which I can’t relate. (For me, especially, as I have a love for animals, I would never join any community that doesn’t practice, in a deep way, a reverence for all living beings. So, on those grounds, many church communities wouldn’t have much to offer me.)

What do you think of Laurence Gardner’s books? He seems to have had a penchant for picking through bible passages and trying to piece together their historical context. I think he was a historian with a free mason background, not a theologist, so his interpretation would be very different from a theologist.

I hope that you are healing from your abusive marriage. We have met people in abusive marriages, and as with yourself, the abuser was religious. Knowing such people who really struggled in these situations, we feel for you and hope that you have created a more joyful and healthful and peaceful life for yourself.
