Walking is soon to be a crime? Wait it was during Covid

Cute little short story by Ray Bradbury written in 50’s before he was “famous”. Just walking could get you picked up and committed to a mental institution. Just stay at home staring at your screen. That’s what they’re for, if you want to see or know anything…

Thank you for sharing this excellent and provacative story.

We recently looked at a few videos of the Tesla Tiny Homes, and noted how there seemed to be very little space in these places for any human creativity (i.e., space for crafts, culinary pursuits, music making, pianos, book libraries) that one would associate with a healthy and meaningful human existence – and they all seem to be equiped with screens.

Bradbury seemed to be incredibly prescient in expressing his own concerns about the kind of society that morphs out of the screen culture.

… of course they wouldn’t have space for books … That one even purchases a “Tiny Home” (Tesla or any other) usually means one has already been “supplied” with all of the ideas one would ever need.

A “Tiny Home” is just slightly above “you will own nothing and be happy”.

“You will own next to nothing and be happy with paying everything for it”. (this series of words is the C / TM / intellectual property of ScarmoCo.)

Thanks, Bill! That is the one I remember reading in High School! Of course I had no clue about the real meaning of it back then!!
