I am so curious about this because my girls are fine. They are laying at their normal rate for winter months, 5 eggs a day. They did slow down during the shortest days after molting. But they never stopped laying entirely.
So this Producers Pride chicken feed is the cheapest stuff on the market. My chickens get a soy free, no imported ingredients layer pellets that are about 10 dollars more per 50 pound bag.
I have a feed store in my neighborhood and I support his small business. My hens are beautiful and healthy. They also get all our table scraps and trimmings from our vegetable garden. I have had no problem with egg production. Was even able to give a dozen to our dog groomer yesterday. They are like gold.
It is interesting that many are reporting that their hens start laying again once they let them free range. We here have to be careful of that due to the fact that we have so many birds of prey in our area.
