WHAT DO EXPLODING PHONES, PAGERS, AND CALIFORNIA FIRES HAVE IN COMMON?

BB guns are legal, inexpensive and quiet….better get one now before they are illegal.

Yes. Most ordinary people have no idea of the penetration of Israeli security services - Unit 8200 - into our tech sector - because they are extremely expert at what I will call “cyber manipulation.”

this is really tangential but I noticed recently that flip phones are coming back and are a thing - people must have gotten some kind of memo

When someone sabotage my land line; I realized I needed a back up.
My wife researched it, and came up with a flip-phone called Jitterbug.
My land line couldn’t call long distance[without Amazon pricing it; to the moon, and back]
So, two birds knocked off; with one Jitterbug.
I don’t take with me, UNLESS there is NO CHOICE!

If you haven’t read ENSHITIFICATION: Why Everything Suddenly Got Worse and What To Do About It by Cory Doctorow, 2025.
If you read it; it may very well answer some of what you always suspected, but couldn’t prove.

[the message: get rid of “smart”; or, close to smart phone - as possible
Flipped out; or, otherwise!]

Yes! To Cory Doctorow & Enshittification! Everyone I tell about that word & the concept - from a librarian to a retired psychotherapist to a tech professional has laughed out loud & said Yes! They get it, not just enshittification of the Internet but of many other aspects of our modern world as well!

Have you tested these new or even old eBay flip-phones to see if they’ve slipped in a sneaky GPS tracker?

I remember the day there was so much excitement having a small in your pocket phone. I’m old enough to remember the bricks we had to use while I ‘volunteered’ as police ‘victim support’ volunteer. 'Em were the days…

Never used eBay.
I’m really a Dinosaur.
This site, is pretty much it.

I go to the usual sources, but my participation is extremely limited.
As in our purchase of a Jitterbug.
I HAD TO go kicking and screaming…[so-to-speak].

I want to remind everyone that I prefer this site to REMAIN a polite website, where the constant degradation of conversation by dropping f-bombs and scatalogical references is discouraged. If you MUST use that language than at least do us the courtesy of the old expedient of asterisks… or come up with an alternative like encrudification, &c… can we please lift the standard a bit?

Duly noted.

Frankly, I don’t agree with the author titling his book so.
I should have gone with by gut, and made issue of it.
The author actually bragged about the word being enetered in some new-word dictionaries.
The subject matters of the book; the title; and more are just signs of moral decay.

Happens to be a word my father absolutely detested.
I don’t like it either.
I wanted to give the correct spelling; against my knowing it wasn’t right.
If they do it. It doesn’t make it right.
Any DEEP analyses would have made that plain.

I dropped the moral ball.
I’m sorry.
